Illness Must-Haves

I'm still alive over here. I haven't posted lately because I had a rough couple of weeks; illness, followed by a tooth infection (which was the worst pain I've ever felt in my life), 4 dentist appointments, having to take an antibiotic that made me so nauseous I could barely function, followed by a root canal. But I'm back and feeling much better and I'm excited to share the illness must-haves that got me through the last few weeks.

1. My Mom bought this tablet for me a few years ago so I could keep track of my post-surgery medication schedule. I'm terrible at keeping track of medication, so this came in so handy. I still had 2/3 of the tablet left after I recovered from surgery, and unfortunately I've had many chances to use it again since then.

2. When I get sick, my health standards get a little . . . how can I say this. . . relaxed. I know I should be eating extra healthy at those times, but all I want to do is eat ice cream and potato chips (watching The Biggest Loser always had the same effect on me.)

I'm so excited that Haagen Dazs now has a dairy-free line! Of all the dairy-free ice creams I've tried, this one is my favorite!

3. My Aunt Becky taught me that there's no better way to have a cozy, relaxing evening than to get in your pajamas at 6 o'clock, dim the lights, have a smoke and watch I Love Lucy. And last week I did all of those things. . . minus the cigarette.

4. Ahhh, Golden Girls. I turn it on, and the minute the theme song starts playing, I feel like I've been wrapped in comfort. What more could a person ask for when sick (I mean, other than a chef, a housekeeper and a personal assistant.)

5. When I'm sick, I act like a toddler and start expecting rewards just for having endured something bad. This is the reward I gave myself for all the tooth pain I experienced:

(I haven't had a chance to read any of the books yet, but I'll let you know what I think of them after I'm done reading them!)

I hope the last few weeks have been good for you, dear readers. And if they haven't been good, I hope you bought yourself a nice reward!

  1. Oh man! Tooth pain is the worst! Don’t feel guilty at all for treating yourself.

  4. Good to hear from you and that you survived! I like your list of must haves. Yesterday I finished a book called Lawn Boy by Jonathan Evison in which the main character had tooth ache but couldn't afford a dentist. You know the rest. Good book by the way.

    1. I think I'd have to wait awhile to read a book like that, until the memory of my tooth infection wears off a bit!

  6. I'm sorry to hear of what you've been through, though ice cream helps a lot to feel good as do potato chips. I used to watch re-runs of The Golden Girls. I love those ladies. I imagine I Love Lucy is good too, though I've never seen the show. You're right that after feeling ill for so long one wants to indulge and (maybe) reward oneself. I used to do that when I was younger and frequently ill. I'll be tuning in for your reviews of these goodies when you decide to read them. It's good to have you back with your wonderful sense of humor intact! ;-)

    1. Thank you so much Carmen. I Love Lucy is such a great show. If you ever decide to watch it, two of the best episodes are: 1. Lucy Tells the Truth and 2. Ricky Loses His Temper.
