The Sunshine Award

About a week ago, Pat Wahler nominated me for a Sunshine Award. As part of the Sunshine Award, I'm supposed to do the following:

1. Thank the person who nominated me. (Thank you Pat.)

2. Answer the questions from the person who nominated me.

3. Nominate other bloggers for the award. (I nominate Mildred.)

4. Write the same amount of questions for the blogger I've nominated, or I can use the original questions. (I'm going to use the same questions because I'm lazy.)

5. Notifying the blogger I've nominated.

Now for the questions:

1. What do you love most about blogging/writing?

What a great question, Pat. (You should all know that I'm fluffing my hair gently as I'm answering this question, as if it's the 80's and I'm appearing on The Barbara Walters Special. I hope you don't mind playing the part of Barbara Walters here, Pat.) I love sharing my favorite books and recipes and products with other people. And if I could be an inspiration to just one person. . . Oh, whoops, I think I just took this Barbara Walters Special thing a step too far.

2. Name a place that you've never been but would love to visit and why?

I would love to visit the Laura Ingalls Wilder museums in Desmet, South Dakota, mostly because I want to sleep in a covered wagon and learn how to make butter and twist hay sticks like Laura did in the long winter. It's not the most glamorous vacation a person could go on, but I l'm sure that learning how to twist hay into sticks of firewood will come in extremely handy the next time I'm stuck in a blizzard (provided I happen to have a giant pile of hay in the backyard.)

3. Describe your favorite snack?

Choosing a favorite it too hard since I generally snack as if I'm on my way to the electric chair. I don't like to brag, but I have a talent for taking already unhealthy foods and making them even more unhealthy; Hershey candy bars with frosting spread on top, Kool-aid with extra sugar added to it that I drink while eating candy, ice cream that I've added Girl Scout cookies to. There doesn't seem to be any limit to how unhealthy I can make a snack. But, I'm being forced against my will to clean up my act, so I would have to say my favorite allergy-free snack is popcorn with sea salt on it.

4. What's the best movie you've seen recently?

I'm trying to think of what I watched right before my latest Secret Life of the American Teenager binge (you don't have to judge me for my love of binge watching that show, I'm already judging myself for it.) The last movie I watched before that was Barbie and The DreamHouse and that was so painful I would rather have surgery than watch it again. Crap. I can't even think of the last movie I watched that I liked, so I'll have to cheat a bit and name a movie that I love: Yours, Mine and Ours (not the Dennis Quaid remake, but the original with Lucille Ball and Henry Ford.)

5. What is your favorite season and why?

Fall (or Autumn, if you want to be fancy, but I once had an incredibly annoying neighbor with that name, and it's ruined the entire name for me. So I'm going to be common and call it Fall.) No matter how old I get, when Fall comes I want to put on a plaid skirt and red sweater and go buy school supplies. Sometimes I still go buy notebooks and pens (which is why I currently own 26 spiral notebooks and also why I can't close the third drawer of my bedside table.) This Fall I might have to borrow someone else's kid and go buy them school supplies so this madness can stop.

6. Do you believe in ghosts?

Yes and thanks to watching Unsolved Mysteries a a child, I can't even think about this subject without hearing Robert Stack's creepy voice in my head.

7. What advice do you give but don't take?

I tell other people to eat oranges when they're sick and then I eat candy.

And speaking of sick, I'm in the middle of a horrible cold right now, so I'm going to cheat and not answer the last few questions. I just took some night time cold medicine and blogging while hopped up on cold medicine would be about as wise as blogging while drunk. So to save myself the embarrassment of whatever stupid thing I would probably say once the medicine kicks in, I'll just end the blog entry here (you're welcome!)

  1. Congrats, Angela, for this blog award and for your hilarious answers. I could picture you being interviewed by Barbara Walters. ;-) I hope the cold passes soon...And Autumn, I mean Fall ;-) , is one of my favorite two seasons together with Spring, both because of the gamut of colors that nature puts on display.

  6. You make reading blog posts fun! Your answer about snacks got my sugar addiction raging. I too have had to limit my intake of such things but some days all I want to eat are chocolate cake, Danish pastries and ice cream.

  7. This is my first visit to your blog and what a great way to meet and learn a lot about you. I came here from Nana Diana's blog. Then saw that you were from Indiana and that photo in your header looks like Lake Michigan. I was born in South Bend and raised in Michigan City. I just knew you would answer Fall as your favorite season, because every Fall I get homesick for the beautiful colored leaves and the rustling sound of walking through them. Even thoughts of turning somersaults in them . . .only at my age, that would mean a trip to the chiropractic, LOL.
Anyway, happy to meet you . . . I am your newest follower and hope that you will pop over and visit. Maybe even follow me back if you like my blog.
    Connie :)

    1. Thanks for becoming a follower! You are correct about the picture. A few years ago, my bother and sister and I sent my parents on an Anniversary trip to a hotel on Lake Michigan and that's one of the pictures she sent back!

That's so funny that you grew up in South Bend because I live pretty close to that area and I have several relatives currently living there, so I know that area well. I also go to Michigan City several times a year to go to the outlet mall. You're so right about how nice the fall foliage is. It's beautiful here in the Fall.

  8. The Laura Ingalls Wilder museums sound interesting to me. I didn't realize there were a few of them in various states. Hmm. Now I'd like to visit too.

    1. Yes, there are quite a few. I've been lucky enough to visit the one in Mansfield, Missouri. If you want to know more about the different museums, there are two books written by people who have traveled to all of them. I did book reviews of both books. Here are the links:

    1. I used the template that was found in the blogger dashboard. Go to theme and all of the layouts are there. I used the Contempo background. And the picture at the top of the blog is a picture my Mom took of Lake Michigan. I hope that helps!

  14. At this time it looks like Movable Type is the preferred blogging
platform available right now. (from what I've read) Is that what you are using on your blog?

    1. No. I just use blogger. I've found that's the easiest way for me to blog because I'm not very tech savy.
