I'm A Reading Challenge Maniac

I've been in a frenzy of signing up for reading challenges lately. I just completed the Laura Ingalls Wilder reading challenge.

I also signed up for:

1. The Anne of Green Gables Read-along - You might think I wouldn't have had room in my childhood to love another book series, what with all the time I spent curling my hair like Nellie Olsen's and building a popsicle stick replica of the town of Walnut Grove, but I still managed it.

2. The Jane Austen Austenesque Lovers TBR Pile Challege on Goodreads. - The main page of the challenge asks the question: Do you have a pile of Austenesque books that are just begging to be read?

Well, let's see. Do I have any Austenesque books to read. I checked my to-read stacks and it seems like I might have a few:

3. The Take Control of Your TBR Pile Challenge - When I decided to join this reading challenge, I thought I had about 200 books in my to-be-read piles, but I hadn't actually counted them. This morning I decided to count them just to be sure and I discovered I have 463 books waiting to be read. My initial reaction was the same reaction I had the first time I got on the scale after going on a cruise, "No wait. That number can't be real. This is not happening. This is not happening. THIS IS NOT HAPPENING." A few hours later, I was shuffling around like a broken woman, muttering under my breathe 463 pages. How could this have happened when something truly horrifying occurred: I realized there were several stacks that I had forgotten to count. You know that moment in TV shows with the main character learns something shocking and they freeze but the room around them starts to spin. That's what it felt like when I realized there were more books. 70 more books to be exact. So that brings the grand total of books in my to-be-read piles to 533. It's possible I might need more than just a reading challenge. I might need an intervention.

Have you joined any interesting reading challenges lately?

  1. I don't join challenges any longer, but that doesn't mean I don't add some of the books to my list. :) I do get stuck in reading itineraries after becoming interested in a topic, author, or genre and following the threads. Good luck in taking control of that TBR pile!

    1. Thank you. Whenever I reserve books from the library, I get stuck on certain topics and end up checking out tons of books on that subject. But I've never done a reading challenge before this year!

  2. Have fun with the reading challenges, that Austenesque books pile looks wonderful. I'm doing the Take Control of Your TBR Pile Challenge right now. I tend to do a few challenges a year, I also love doing the 24 hour-read-a-thon twice a year.

  4. Oh, I’m jealous of your austenesque collection. I love all the spin offs. My tbr list is out of control. I try not to think about it too hard.

    1. There are a couple of great used book stores near where I live, and I'm always able to find great Austeneque books there!

  5. Hope you enjoy the challenges. That seems like a lot of books to get through.

  6. I did a TBR pile reading challenge last year and it was great; made me read some of my own books for a change, always a good thing. :) And I've done other challenges over the years, but this year I decided to go challenge-free. I just needed a break. Although if I'd known about that Laura Ingalls Wilder challenge early enough I would have changed my mind. Good luck with ALL your reading challenges this year!

  7. I haven't joined any challenges, but I read every night before bed.

  8. heh I did this my first year in blogging and found I couldn't keep up, but once I got on wordpress, a whole new world opened up and I can now track my challenges easier. I wish I knew that before, because I'd probably have signed up for more this year

  9. Well I have 480 books in my Kindle without counting the ARCS that I have requested from Netgalley, and the physical books that I have on my shelves at home, plus some I have read and found so good that I would like to re-read...And that's without thinking that I don't read remotely fast. Nowadays I'm making an average of one book a month, regardless of its length. :-) In short, I think all bookworms need interventions. ;-)

  10. I think challenges are great to help direct one's reading. I can't commit to TBR reduction challenges, however. They make me feel to hemmed in. But I love doing the Back to the Classics Challenge hosted by Karen at the blog Books and Chocolate because it is broad enough to work in a variety of books I might have on my shelf/TBR.

  13. Welllll....Keep an eye out for my #TheUnreadShelfProject2018 sign-up post soon... you just may feel a bit better about those 533 books... I could use that intervention too!

  14. I'm always looking for a reading challenge myself and I can completely relate to your TBR read pile.

  15. I love reading challenges, but only if I don't stress about actually completing them. I mostly just like THINKING about what I might read in a given year. The one challenge that I am REALLY trying to complete is the 2018 Literary Escapes one where you try to read a book set in each of the 50 states plus D.C. It's fun!
